Created by the audiovisual production company Videoreport Canarias during the economic crisis and with the aim of helping, Open brings us closer to the day-to-day life of society through its citizens, with its positive and less positive realities, but always trying to find solutions instead of just reporting what is happening. The section “El chollo” is the best example of this philosophy and became the highlight of the programme, to boost the local economy, especially that of small and medium-sized enterprises and at the same time give disadvantaged consumers access to products or services at an incredibly competitive price. The result was an overwhelming success: long queues, even before the shops opened, and products sold out in a short time.

Open also became a clear demonstration of the solidarity of the Canarian people, as individuals, groups, entrepreneurs and administrations attended the most pressing and desperate needs expressed by their fellow citizens.
